Message from the Skies: Love Letters to Europe.

Written by Lousie Welsh

In 2019, Message from the Skies projected Letters of Love to Europe, celebrating Scotland's deep connection with the continent. This collaborative effort fused the words of six esteemed writers with the creative prowess of Scotland's top designers and musicians, all brought to life through animation and innovative projection mapping techniques across Edinburgh's landmarks.

At the heart of this immersive experience was our collaboration with writer Louise Welsh and designer Emlyn Firth, culminating in a captivating large-scale storytelling projection on Techcube in Edinburgh. Inspired by captcha tests, the typographic treatment employed the Opposit typeface, introducing a unique contrast and myriad accents to the narrative.

As animators and projection mapping specialists, we worked closely with Emlyn Firth to animate and bring his designs to life.

Message from the Skies, a production of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay in collaboration with the Edinburgh International Book Festival and Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature, epitomised the harmonious blend of art, culture and innovation.
