Giant Leaps, Immersive Museum Experience

For the Manchester Science and Industry Museum, we collaborated with Corey Baker Dance to create Giant Leaps, an interactive, immersive installation blending science, technology, and art. Designed to spark curiosity in STEM, this experience explored how human movement changes in different atmospheres, reflecting Corey Baker’s ambition to choreograph a dance for astronauts in partnership with the European Space Agency. Using state-of-the-art depth sensors and custom software, we transformed audience movements into motion-reactive particle systems, inspired by imagery from the James Webb and Chandra X-ray Observatories. Every movement generated thousands of stars, forming galaxies that expanded and burst into starlight around participants and dancers. The experience was heightened by holographic projection, which captured the real-time animations, giving the illusion of floating galaxies. Corey Baker’s dancers performed among these stars, while ambient music and playful props encouraged audience engagement and movement.

An immersive journey through dance & space

After its success at the Manchester Science Festival, Giant Leaps had an extended run at the National Science and Media Museum, offering audiences a unique, otherworldly experience. This project reflects our passion at Bright Side Studios, crafting immersive, innovative experiences that connect technology, storytelling, and human emotion.
