Hidden Door Festival, Heart of the Hive

For Hidden Door Festival, we transformed a derelict Edinburgh space into an immersive experience spotlighting the decline of honeybee populations. In collaboration with PYRUS, we created a living installation of flora, light, and sound, designed to evoke the life of a hive. Participants entered through a fragrant botanical walkway into a darkened, hive-like room, where projection mapped animations brought a sculptural honeycomb wall to life. A soundscape of the hive’s hum and richly scented flowers heightened the sensory experience.

Over the course of the week, the flowers faded and died, delivering a powerful metaphor for the fragility of bees and their vital role in our ecosystem. This multi-sensory journey of light, scent, and sound was a poignant call to action, blending art and nature to highlight the urgency of protecting these essential pollinators.
