Message from the Skies, Hogmanay Projections

Kapka Kassabova’s evocative Love Letter to Europe, written for Message from the Skies, celebrated Scotland’s connection with Europe, for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay. Collaborating with composer Pippa Murphy, we brought Kassabova's poignant words to life on the National Monument of Scotland, which sits atop Calton Hill, blending visual storytelling, and projection mapping with Pippa Murphy’s evocative score. In her Love Letter to Europe, Kassabova expresses a deep appreciation for the continent’s rich cultural tapestry and shared history, highlighting the interconnectedness of its people despite national borders. Through animation augmented to the historic building via projection mapping, we translated these themes into a powerfully immersive experience, using cascading visuals and movement to mirror the culture, emotions, and dualities she evoked.
